London notes the British reply to Germany on reparations favors a simple, direct outline with no details and aims to unify lines with France Belgium and Italy while delaying U S copies. The German ambassador may receive the note soon and copies go to France and Belgium as courtesy.
John M. Gibbs of the North Carolina Pine Association warns the southern labor crisis is acute as mills stop or slow production. He cites rising wages but continued outflow of black workers to the North, urges opposing large scale migration and argues against shifting to alien labor.
The Standard Pipe Line Company through Thom M Milling of Shreveport plans to file in district court by week end a suit to restrain the Louisiana Public Service Commission from enforcing an order slashing rates and prescribing conditions for operation. The commission filed suit to set aside an injunction and proceed to declare the company a public utility and audit its books. The petition argues lack of jurisdiction improper injunction timing and that the district court cannot restrain the commission’s proceedings.
New wells in the Monroe gas field report strong daily outputs with D. Y. Smith White No 1 at 16.0 million, Southern Carbon Fee No 19 at 16.8 million, Morris Trustee Wil lam No 1 at 6.0 million, and Perry No 2 at 4.0 million cu ft daily. Extensions by Marlett No 1 and Pipes well broaden the productive area amid ownership and leasing delays.

New Orleans May 11 George Seth Guion first assistant attorney general will run for governor. Detroit authorities probe a house tied to abolitionist John Brown described in local lore as the 1859 meeting point for plans to free slaves via Harper's Ferry. Five hundred pints of beer and a small amount of whiskey were found, the property now owned by a laundry.

In Corsicana Texas May 11 a gigantic Hughes McKie wildcat oil well in East Navarro field explodes killing at least fifteen. J K Hughes says crews and nineteen boilers will bring the blaze under control with steam and fire foam. Oil field workers form bonds amid disaster as bodies are recovered.

Indications of concerted wage raise efforts surfaced as disputes are filed with the U S railroad labor board. Reports show several carriers granted raises including Nashville Chattanooga and St Louis Railway and Great Northern Railway maintenance workers. A Denver and Rio Grande Western maintenance of way unit filed for raises from eight to fifteen cents per hour for 2300 members.
