Baton Rouge May 8 Colonel T S Lambda Jones rejects Governor elect Fuqua backed Klansman for Speaker saying he will not vote for Mr Douglas. He warns that if the Governor's influence weakens the State could face a future with a resigned Klansman and an acknowledged Klansman controlling voter registration. He pledges support for Fuqua platform on Klan regulation.
A vigorous fight against modifying prohibition laws is led by Wayne B. Wheeler of the Anti Saloon League before the House Judiciary Committee. The delegation argues against 2.75 percent beer, claiming it would nullify enforcement of the Eighteenth Amendment and U S Volstead Act. Wheeler cites crime, poverty, and arrests data to oppose any legalization.
