Monroe Delegation Heads to Southern Baptist Convention

A special train for Louisiana delegates will depart Shreveport Tuesday at 2 PM and reach Monroe around 6 PM. Attending from Monroe are Rev and Mrs Frank Tripp and Mr and Mrs Frank Maling, among others. The sixty sixth session draws delegates from Baptist churches across the South, following last year’s 11000 attendance in Washington. The Chattanooga gathering will convene at the Billy Sunday tabernacle.

Robbers loot bank vault and safety boxes at Como

Robbers entered Planters Bank in Como and rifled safety deposit boxes, seizing Liberty bonds and valuables. They burned a vault opening with an acetylene torch, failed to crack the safe, but took about $500 from a money drawer. Separately in Memphis, bandits robbed D. J. Strehl and J. W. Quinn of $3000 after forcing them to a suburb.

Methodists End Session Back World Peace Moves

Nashville May 7 A closing session of the board of missions of the M E Church South adopted a resolution in favor of world disarmament announced appropriations for foreign and home missions and authorized visits to mission fields abroad among its principal features.

In Maidstone on May 7 Prime Minister Lloyd George said if Germany disarms under Versailles she is entitled to ask allies to insist on Poland’s disarmament. He spoke to 5 009 people under the National Unionist Association.

Thomas McElroy Dies at 79 in St Francis Hospital

Thomas D McElroy aged 79 died last night at 9 from St Francis sanitarium. He was a Richland parish merchant and planter who retired due to ill health and moved through Monroe to Simsboro where he lived at death. Survived by his widow, he joined the Methodist church for forty years and funeral services will be by Rev H W Ledbetter at 3:30 from his sister-in-law Mrs J P Bonar's home. Interment in Old City cemetery.

Mothers Day will be observed in Monroe and West Monroe with church services and flowers. At First Baptist in Monroe Pastor Tripp will preach on Mother and live mourners receive red or white carnations for living or passed mothers. Federal Court Prevents Sheriff Sale of Monroe Cafe

A federal judge in Shreveport issued an order restraining the sheriff and several companies from further sale actions against Angelo Kanelos owner of Monroe Busy Bee cafe. The move follows Kanelos arrest for alleged prohibition violations and a bankruptcy petition filed by Liquid Carbonic Co and others.
