Infant Perishes In Arkansas House Fire

A four month old girl died in a Strong Arkansas house fire when a jammed door trapped her escaping mother. The mother and neighbors attempted rescue as flames engulfed the four room frame residence. Body Of Young Fisherman Still Missing After River Search

Firemen recovered no body as they dragged the Ouachita River near Bosco for 22 year old John Max Takewell, feared drowned after his boat drifted away while he examined nets. Takewell was last seen chatting with his brother in law at 2 45 PM Sunday before vanishing.

Area wrecks leave eight injured across two crashes

Two separate accidents north and east of Monroe sent eight people to area hospitals. The most seriously hurt include John W. Thrasher and Mrs Mary Thrasher of West Monroe and John H Harvey of Jackson Mississippi. State police await investigation and potential charges against Harvey.

AFL-CIO charges Beck and Brewster with union fund misuse

The AFL-CIO levelled charges against Teamster President Dave Beck and Vice-President Frank Brewster for using union funds for personal purposes and for personal profit. Syd Brennan faced corrupt activities charges, with the entire Teamsters leadership accused of inaction. The 22 page bill of particulars accompanied hearings on union domination by corrupt influence. Beck called the accusations a medieval inquisition while demanding specifics. The hearing, held behind closed doors at AFL-CIO headquarters, began with Beck in a jovial mood posing for photographers.
