In Miami Burns says he awaits word from Washington on Herbert Wilson con rumor linked to the Wall Street bomb that killed 39 in 1920. He plans to travel to Los Angeles if no word arrives, while adding no direct Wilson connection has been proven yet.

Paul Merritt of El Dorado Arkansas was seized near Denton Texas carried to a creek bottom and flogged by masked men who warned him not to testify falsely in the Bar ney Cloninger criminal assault trial. Merritt said he testified truthfully and Cloninger received a five year sentence.
Birmingham officials say ten men unnamed publicly formed the mob that flogged Dr. J. D. Dowling health officer on May 17, 1922. C. W. Tyson named the mob members in a statement to justice authorities. Tyson is detained for questioning. A roundup of suspects begins. two dairymen and a plumber indicted by the Jefferson county grand jury are free on bond.
The arctic cold front moves east and south, bringing frost to the eastern United States. By tomorrow morning frost is forecast as far south as Northern Florida with sharply dropping temperatures further north.
John Kearsley Mitchell, heiress Stotesbury son-in-law, to be questioned again by Assistant District Attorney Pecora in the Dororthy Keenan murder investigation. Francis Keenan admitted telephoning Major Draper Daugherty to secure a Justice Department job and denied threatening exposure over the matter.
In St. Louis on March 31 authorities reported that after several improvements the Right Reverend Daniel 8. Tuttle was a little weaker today, marking a minor change in his condition.
Clarence C. Pell of New York fell to England’s E. M. Bayerlin in the amateur racquets semi final in London. The match went to Bayerlin after a hard rally with scores 12-15 15-8 17-14 15-9.
Mitchell, a black man, received his fifth and final death sentence after being found guilty of murdering Harrell Bolton last May. Rangers flew from Austin and deputies guarded the jail as officials plan possible appeals and further trials for eight nonfatal charges. Mitchell later signed a written confession to all the killings.
