In New York on March 19 United States Steel led a broad stock ascent as traders scrambled for rising shares. Call money fell to 8 percent with eased time money and commercial paper, while expectations of Bank of England cuts and European ease fueled a wide buying surge.
Paul Brown III a 17 year old heir who inherited 1 180 000 from his grandfather Paul Brown St Louis sportsman and broker died of pneumonia at his mother's home 75 Central Park West New York. He had just returned from Worcester Academy Worcester Massachusetts with a neck boil when the infection developed into pneumonia.
In Nashville on March 19 a young white man robbing a suburban drug store tied up the proprietor and fled through the rear after taking 140 dollars from the safe. He paused to serve two customers making change for a ten dollar bill before escaping with the loot. Nearby Fayetteville reports snowfall and a two degree below freezing night impacting fruit as spring nears.
The Caddo parish grand jury in Shreveport began day three of a probe into alleged fraud in city bill payments. Witnesses included A. M. Richmond, Dr. E. L. Thompson, Judge Ben C. Dawkins, Philip H. Mecom, and Mrs. F. C. Allen. District Attorney Lal C. Blanchard offered no timeframe for the inquiry.

Representatives of cotton cooperative associations from Arkansas Missouri and Tennessee will convene in Little Rock to form a Mid-South Cotton Cooperative Association. Plans for the merger are outlined by Charles G Henry president of the Arkansas group with Memphis likely to house the new headquarters.
A Greek freighter Eugenie listing its position 200 miles northeast of Bermuda reported engines stopped and inability to steer. The Eugenie drifted southeast and pleaded for help to the American freighter Syros, which picked up the SOS as Eugenie’s crew sought assistance. The Eugenie, 2312 tons, sails from Baltimore to Marseilles. The Syros departed New Orleans March 10 for Havre.

The Times Picayune notes differing views in the War Department on abandoning the Texas basin floodway, with prospects of using reservoirs on Arkansas and White rivers. Seven members of the Maxey family in Jones county Mississippi face federal prohibition charges after Deputy U.S. Marshal Reed arrested them in Laurel. Four were taken to Meridian, three were charged earlier. those arrested yesterday include John Maxey, two of his daughters, Irvin Grice, and Ollie Loftin.
In New Orleans on March 19, Robert Doyle aged 27 and Bertrand Pratt aged 30 were convicted late last night of murder for the brutal kicking death of an aged negro porter during the hold up at the No Name Social club. They faced life imprisonment in the penitentiary.
Governor Doyle Carlton ordered Florida sheriffs to arrest Al Capone should he enter the state and escort him to the border with instructions not to return. The telegram asked for prompt action and offered further assistance if needed.

The Mississippi House approved the Harris mineral conservation bill by 89 to 18 to safeguard drilling for gas and oil. Only amendment struck section two limiting drilling sites. Rep Gipson sought reconsideration. Opposition cited Louisiana experience and fear of hampering drilling before commercial finds.
Orleans levee board orders 250 camp licenses revoked as it plans an airport on land fronting Lake Pontchartrain. H. W. Waguespack says camp owners harmed city welfare. A. L. Shushan warns camps will be moved at their expense if they refuse to relocate.
Senators Ransdell and Broussard presented to President Hoover the names of three judges for the vacancy created by Justice Sandford's death. The nominees are Chief Justice Charles A. O'Neill of Louisiana's state supreme court Judge Ben Dawkins of the western district and Judge Rufus Foster of the United States circuit court of appeals.
J H Watkins, secretary and treasurer of Ouachita Valley National Farm Loan, announces candidacy for mayor of West Monroe in the upcoming primary. He vows progressive government, housing improvements, and economical municipal operation, with offices in Monroe. He is the sole opponent to incumbent C C Bell in the April 5 primary.
Ouachita parish police jury awarded the brick shop and barn building contract to L. A. Ellis. Ellis bid 5267 for completion in under 60 days, narrowly under the second low bidder W. T. Simpson at 5270.70. Eleven bidders total with small gaps among the lowest. Other bids ranged from 5483 to 6100 plus security bond.

Pat Folbre a Rock Island railroad brakeman was held on murder charges in Forrest City Ark after the death of Will Brown a former constable. Folbre says Brown reached for a pistol and he beat him to the draw following a drinking argument at Brown’s home. Brown is said to have killed several men in his line of duty and is survived by his widow and three children.
Mississippi report says Carl Marshall a coast attorney sought for contempt by the house was said to be at the governor’s mansion. Sergeant at Arms May asked Governor Bilbo to verify. The governor offered no confirmation and proposed a full mansion search. Mansion search by house police began at 1 PM.
Federal agents arrested Morris Rosen president of Bottlers' Specialty with clerk John Powers after a delivery of 15 gallons of alcohol. Authorities seized records and many fake labels and bottles, naming major liquor operators across several states as the probe widens through the south and midwest.
NAUVOO Alabama March 19 The 70 year old storekeeper known as Uncle Will Dodd has led a moonshine still crackdown. Riding with sons grandsons and a deputy he captured 17 stills in three months and plans more. Local families support the crusade to save the boys and girls and aid wildcatters.
