His four year coaching career saw a undefeated track era and three year football championships. The University of Pennsylvania had seven members in its first graduating class.
In Atlanta on March 12 pressman W M Turner blinded by bandages after a car wreck asked for a newspaper to feel. He traced the print and exclaimed the paper was not the Constitution nor the Atlanta paper, noting it was printed elsewhere by another shop.

He admitted income for 1936 and 1937 totaling 10255.08 with tax 137.38, while alleged taxable income was 61763.49 with tax 1976.54.
Secretary Ickes pushes to extend coal price controls beyond the pending act. Representative Robertson of Virginia notes opposition to the Guffey act but says amendments could improve effectiveness for all as defense spending winds down. Ickes says amendments are not drafted and time is short before contract expiration.

Ada Womack 62 widow of R B Womack died at her son Samm Womack’s home in Gilbert early Tuesday. Funeral at Liddieville Baptist Church Wednesday with Rev. Rateliff officiating. Interment planned at Odenwellsee? near Winnsboro. Survived by five sons Harvey Samm Wyatt Lawson Hower of Gilbert and Wigner, two daughters McMurray Liddieville and Lillie Melton Chatham, brother Obe Willis Jena.
The funeral of O. F. Watts, 68, of Dunn, who died Tuesday in a Pineville hospital from a cerebral hemorrhage, was held at Forney Hazie home near Dunn. Burial followed at Carpenter's Cemetery with a Holiness Church minister officiating. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and one son.
Barbara Joan Staley eight months daughter of Mr and Mrs Norman Staley of Swartz died in a local hospital. Funeral at Swartz Baptist Church Thursday at 2 30 p m with Rev Sweetman and Rev E L Tanner officiating. Interment Loch Arbor Cemetery. Survived by parents and grandparents Mr and Mrs J F Staley and Mr and Mrs J F Scott all of Swartz. Dixie Funeral Home in charge.
Revenue department said Anderson arranged to pay the proper tax for two years. He was convicted of federal income tax evasion tied to those years and served about a year in federal prison. He is now free on parole.

Baton Rouge La March 12 Colonel Troy H Middleton was elected comptroller of Louisiana State University by the school board of supervisors. He has served as acting comptroller and acting vice president for nearly two years. The board did not elect a vice president, and it was understood the position would remain unfilled for the time being. The board chairman said the American Council on Education recommended combining the offices of vice president and comptroller.
