Exiled ruler of Nicaragua releases a sharp broadside against Taft praising independence and condemning U.S. policy. The tirade, in strong terms, accuses foreign interference and calls for sovereignty and self rule.
Jose Seelay, exiled former Nicaragua president, condemns President Taft in a 16 page Brussels pamphlet titled Refutation of the Statements of President Taft. He accuses the U S government of aggression in Latin America, claims it seeks to seize Central America, and hints at withdrawal from U S Senate politics with pledged support to a chosen candidate. He asserts Latin American solidarity against U S policy and signals ongoing involvement in regional political matters.
New York March 1 Wm F Sheehan declares in a letter to Democratic legislators that he will remain the party’s US Senate candidate as long as the party desires him. He pledges support to any rival chosen by a majority caucus if demanded, arguing for majority rule and caucus regularity. He notes prior offers to retire if Edward M Sheppard would similarily leave.
Administrative ticket lists mayor and council candidates by ward with names including Forsythe Faulk Haas Heinberg Flournoy Prophit Williams Bloch Powers Russell Gimler Mangham Blank Downey Windes Copeland Marks Faulk. A big show of dogs in Pittsburg features nearly 300 varieties judged by experts at the Duquesne Kennel Club event starting today with prize winners from top kennels nationwide.

New Orleans reports March 1 as cotton futures steady with prices down 4 to 11 points from the day’s high, indicating modest holding after earlier peaks.
The Senate voted 46 to 40 to retain Senator Lorimer of Illinois. He was absent and did not vote while speeches for and against continued. Taliaferro sat without responding, and Senator Cullum's vote drew keen interest as both sides claimed him, but he supported Lorimer.
Ceiba March 1. With no agreement reached in Puerto Cortez on a provisional Honduran president acceptable to General Manuel Bonilla, the revolutionary leader is expected to end armistice and resume fighting. Gen Maymo Rasles, the government's peace envoy, left Ceiba for Puerto Cortez after a conference with the revolutionary leader, which produced no result.
In a heated critique the author questions former Levee Board secretary H R Speed's handling of city funds. Citing the State Auditor, the piece alleges no proper records or vouchers existed from 1905 to 1909 and accuses Speed of diverting thousands to a personal fund. The column contrasts Forsythe and Speed, urging scrutiny of official acts.
