Police test of anti skid material on wet Montgomery Street
A West Monroe police patrol car skidded 80 feet on wet pavement before stopping during a test run for anti skid material. After applying the material the skid length was reduced to 56 feet. The lower photo shows material being applied from a barrel with a spray nozzle, directed by Jack Whiteside of the marketing company.

Hostage Rescued In Store Robbery
Ashdown Arkansas UPI. Clyde Sampson store manager was held hostage for an hour during a Texarkana grocery robbery. Sheriff Blrtcher tackled and disarmed Edmond Nolan Lent 40 of Richmond Virginia. Lent fled in a car pursued by police, was captured, jailed in Texarkana with $10,000 bond. Wanted in six states Texas Virginia North Carolina South Carolina Ohio and Louisiana.

Jury Commission Change Ordered In Louisiana Case
Lafayette AP A jury commission was urged to overhaul its criminal juror selection to be race neutral. District Attorney Bertrand LeBlanc said convictions must meet federal standards as Acadia Lafayette and Vermilion parishes venire lists are used. The action followed a US District Court ruling granting a new trial for Edward Davis, condemned for the 1959 murder of Crowley patrolman Ezra Foreman, whose attorneys challenged the juror selection method.

Van Expects Release From Hospital Soon
Bernie Van, a Ward 3 police juror, was shocked on June 22 while working on a construction site near Sterlington. He remained in good condition at St. Francis Hospital and anticipated release within days after a steel tape was pushed into a high voltage bus bar. Co workers credited his actions with preventing injuries to three coworkers. Van said the procedure was standard and he felt fairly well, hoping to return soon.
