Audrey Smashes Louisiana Coast and Thousands Fleet

The first summer hurricane moved inland from the coast with winds up to 100 miles per hour and four to eight inches of rain in south Louisiana. The storm centers near 75 mph as it tracks north along the state’s western border. CAA notes no warnings for Selman Field while signaling heavy rains and winds later. Monroe airline traffic remains steady with no delays. Southern Bell prepares emergency crews to aid storm areas and restore service as eight to ten units are slated to depart from Monroe for Lake Charles, possibly more if needed.

Three Injured In Head On Collision West Of West Monroe

Three persons were seriously injured in a head on collision eight miles west of West Monroe early today. They were taken to St. Francis hospital where the extent of injuries was not known at noon. Injured were Billy R. Spurlock and Harold W. Copeland, both of Rayville.

Death of Vincent Dickard in Norfolk Automobile Crash

Word has come of the death of Vincent Dickard age 19 son of Mr and Mrs Herbert E Dickard Jr of San Diego California and grandson of Mr and Mrs Herbert E Dickard 2126 Pargoud Blvd Monroe. Dickard was killed in an auto accident in Norfolk Virginia yesterday morning. Funeral arrangements are incomplete but will be held at the Naval Memorial Cemetery in San Diego California. He is survived by his parents grandparents and siblings Kinta Candy Herbert E III all of Point Loma San Diego California.

Texas vacationer found dead in Big Bend area

The body of Clifford S. White, a Houston businessman, was found on a sunbaked road in Big Bend National Park. Authorities say his wife, missing since Tuesday, is being searched for after the couple were warned not to travel in the isolated border area. Temperatures reached 114 degrees as ground crews recovered the body and park officials described the deaths as likely from exhaustion and heat.

Gentry Family Reunion Planned at Roadside Park

Cameron Parish Battered By Powerful Winds

NEW ORLEANS AP reports hurricane Audrey ripped through Cameron Parish Louisiana leaving it without power or communications. Civil Defense said only a few remained in the low marshland area and those not evacuated were in Cameron courthouse. An unconfirmed report spoke of four or five people lost when a boat overturned near the Cameron jetty.

Mine Rescue Hero Bears Huge Auger Out of Hole
