The wife of General Patton says she will not disclose letters or oppose General Eisenhower if he is nominated. The interview notes rumors circulating since 1948 about possible dramatic disclosures. The reporter cites Kent Hunter and James Roosevelt as sources of the rumor.
Miss Louisiana Peach and two princesses win the crown in Bastrop to head the inaugural peach festival. The queen’s identity was kept secret until coronation night after Thursday activities began with a banquet and judging of ten entrants at Bastrop Junior High and a Morehouse Country Club barbecue hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Pate. Contestants showcased talents from twirling to vocal solos and piano pieces as judges from Monroe selected the winner.
Congressman Otto E Passman announced that the House appropriations committee unanimously approved a $23.755 million fund to reactivate Selman Field. The measure, backed by Passman a key appropriations member, will go to the floor, then to the Senate for final action within days. The field is expected to start with about 6 400 personnel and payroll exceeding $20 million yearly.
Baton Rouge House approves a measure granting teachers a 10 percent cost of living raise from surplus welfare revenues. The plan, supported 89 to 0, uses about seven million dollars annually for two years and covers all public school personnel.
Washington The House Appropriations Committee recommended a 3 percent reduction in new lands for the armed forces foreign aid atomic energy and other items. The cash cut totals 3 468 million and the measure proceeds to the House with Senate consideration to follow.
Coroner Dr J T French announced that pathologists findings point to electrocution in the case of Elbert Brown Jr found under a Renwick Street home Wednesday night. Pathology reports by Dr Margaret Blackperson and Dr N Klam to be released later. Electricians surveyed the house but found no loose wiring. The child, son of Maggie Lee and Elbert Brown, was discovered by his sister Emma Lee after the father returned home.
West Monroe imposes strict limits to conserve water as shortages hit most residents served by the municipal system. An ordinance currently blocks nonessential water use except for essential household needs.
Mayor C. C. Bell Jr asks all West Monroe residents to help enforce a water waste ordinance. He urges citizens to notify the police at 8123 when they see waste, noting the shortage is serious and the police force is small.
The ordinance prohibits watering lawns gardens and car washes from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. A delegation of state residents from outlying additions urged relief after reporting they had little or no water. They criticized wasteful use and urged police involvement, but officials noted police jurisdiction limits outside city bounds.
Senator Estes Kefauver of Tennessee told a New Orleans round-table program he seeks the Democratic nomination without President Truman’s endorsement. He argued for a clean party fight, state rights, a balanced budget, crime cleanup, and new government-business resolve while backing the tidelands veto, U S sovereignty over oil lands, and the St Lawrence Seaway with largely American-flag shipping. He noted he was normally bound to accept the party’s nomination.
Nevada reports detail the case of Jeanne d Arc Michaud 36 found guilty of transporting over 147000 in loot across state lines in a burglary tied to La Vere Redfield. Redfield denied consent. secret basement cache of 270000 remains. Four men tied to the theft are under arrest and Michaud faces five to 10 years.
Two new polio cases bring Ouachita Parish total to 10 for the year. Earline Jones, 12, and Effie Ozell Little, 11, are the latest victims with onset dates in June. Girls lead among victims this year, with seven of ten cases.
The 650,000 CID steelworkers walkout has halted a large portion of production with costs exceeding six million tons of steel. President Truman weighs Taft Hartley action amid House and Senate requests to use the law to end the dispute. Sen. Henry Cabot Lodge announced Eisenhower will move to Chicago next week to establish campaign HQs for the Republican nomination. Lodge predicted Eisenhower will exceed 500 votes on the first ballot and win on later ballots, while Taft trails. Eisenhower is to speak tonight before a large audience.
Three construction contracts for Barksdale Air Force Base were announced by Col. Hans W. Holmer. S. & L. Construction Co. of Dallas won for seven airmen dormitories and two mess and admin buildings at $1,618,306. Industrial Electric and Supply Co. of Memphis won the electrical distribution system contract at $74,465. Cahn Electric Co. of Shreveport secured a contract to erect a primary line for the system at $18,912 plus $503 for a change order.
Governor Hugh White led the 1952 Mississippi Democratic state convention with a hard line against the national party on civil rights and Fair Employment Practices. He warned of a Southern rebellion if the platform shifts and reaffirmed support for the States Rights ticket if necessary, citing 1948 actions. He called out J. P. Coleman as acting committeeman and signaled possible reconciliation only on terms long held by States Righters.
A Maryland distillery head testified before a judiciary subcommittee that New York and Baltimore distributors could not buy bottled whisky due to Seagram objections. He cited a $250,000 fall 1949 order cancellation by Standard Food and Products and a 1949 Seagram rule blocking case goods.

Reo Motors will continue 20 ton trucks until July 10. A DPA note says Air Force warplane output last month met a portion of scheduled goals.
