Charles A. Deering, a 46 year old Missouri Pacific conductor, was seriously wounded when a .22 rifle discharged as his landlady Mrs J L Jacks tried to wrest the weapon from him at 508 South Street after a birthday party. The bullet pierced his abdomen and thigh before he could seek aid. Police said the incident occurred around 2 am and Mrs Jacks delayed calling a doctor for about 30 minutes.
