Mississippi Democrats Move to Submarine Pro Trumanites
Jackson June 24 The Mississippi state Democratic executive committee moved to counter a July 15 pro Trumanite meeting by forming a 1948 campaign committee to mobilize grass roots support. It will label pro Trumanites as supporters of civil rights and anti South measures, seek endorsements from the 82 county executive committees, and stress States' Rights while defending the party’s legal standing under state law. The plan aims to deter the Truman faction from gaining control and may lead to court action if the issue escalates.
