State Employes May Get Raises
The Louisiana Department of Civil Service began evaluating pay for 38 000 state employees to align wages with private sector levels in key areas. Officials note difficulty recruiting qualified technical staff due to low starting salaries. An effort to set a $1 25 hourly minimum and time and a half for overtime failed last session, potentially costing about $10 million annually. A March 23 pay schedule for some employees remains pending. The governor has promised a report, but none has been issued yet.
