Louisiana to appeal voter registration test ruling to Supreme Court
Louisiana will seek Supreme Court review next term of a federal ruling voiding its constitutional voter registration test. The New Orleans court blocked the test and 21 parishes from using a newer citizenship test, prompting CORE to plan intensive Black voter drives. The case will join a DOJ challenge to Mississippi laws, with the court noting the test as a barrier to Black turnout since the white primary era.
