Swedes Nab Plot To Kidnap Khrushchev
Swedish police busted a plan to kidnap Soviet Premier Khrushchev during a five day visit. A Hungarian suspect, about 30, was arrested near Haga Castle after allegedly plotting to assault the gates in a truck. Police dismissed reports of armed plotters as untrue and reinforced security for Khrushchev with two special units.

Teen-Age Girl Sniper Shot Near Times Square
An 18 year old girl, Joan Wilson, was shot and killed in a Times Square parking lot while with her sister Margaret, 15, and wrestler wife Kathy Brazil. Detectives investigate if the shooting was random or targeted. Joan had just attended Holy Cross School graduation events and planned to visit a Times Square restaurant with her sister.

McKeithen blasts area senator over student loan program
The Ouachita Parish Grand Jury returned three true bills after a month long special session. Indicted were John B. Brown for murder, P. L. Jones for murder, and Nolan Barnes for aggravated rape. The jury also pretermitted a case involving materials from the Monroe City School Board election, asking the district attorney to pursue indictments if possible. In Baton Rouge, Gov. McKeithen accused Sen. Sonny Gilbert of malice or personal attack over remarks about the student loan plan, defending the program as aiding children of pulpwood haulers and laboring people. Gilbert, who opposed the bill, argued it would bar some from loans. McKeithen said many banks charge higher rates and praised Gilbert as the only senator to vote against the bills on Monday. McKeithen’s student loan measure passed the Senate 36 to 1, along with two other administration bills, including gas severance tax continuation and an inventory of state property.

A B52 bomber from the 494th Bomb Wing at Sheppard AFB failed a pressure system hatch at 33000 feet over Fort Worth area. A crewman was hurled out without a parachute and is presumed dead. Carswell AFB is organizing a search party as the bomber circles to burn fuel before landing.
