Right To Work Law May Get Vote Of People
Baton Rouge AP A constitutional proposal to let the people decide if Louisiana should have a right to work law comes before a House committee today. Each side gets a half hour to speak as committee chairman Anthony Vesich Jr. of Orleans Parish notes. Labor leaders will oppose it, and Gov. Jimmie Davis’s House leaders doubt it can pass with a two thirds vote. Rep. John Matassa of New Orleans sponsors the measure to ban compulsory unionism. A 1954 law was adopted then repealed in 1956 after heated debate.
