Theodore Bell hinted as possible permanent chairman with Wilson faction backing Culberson or Henry for temporary chair. Bryan, in Chicago, remained noncommittal on Parker.
Mrs Theodore Roosevelt with Ethel and Quentin attended the convention early today. Among visitors was Mrs Lake Delong Meehan, star of a suffrage paper from New Orleans. Meehan has contributed to Northern ness and Eastern magazines and praises women’s clubs aiding children in mills and factories.
Associated Press reports that Murphy of Tammany and Alton Parker were central to today's arrangements committee meeting, as papers discuss naming plans and party actions.
The Baton Rouge correspondent for the New Orleans Daily States reports the Senate battle on the floor as irrep pressible mayor Forsythe watches from a corner and remains unmoved. Senator Taylor entertains the chamber with a German painter joke about a father and son, linking it to the Bryant bill's future fate in the Senate.

Chicago June 19 Wm Jennings Bryan, at the Republican convention, says he enjoys the gathering more than any national GOP meeting. He notes he has been defeated by the two leading candidates, so he can offer comfort to the loser and says Democrats will control Baltimore next week. He claims no worry for himself and that he is having the time of his life.
The new police jury met at the courthouse at 11 today and formed a permanent organization. O P Slack won the presidency over Victor Barringer seven to five. Fred Hanna was chosen clerk eight to four, O B Morton became parish treasurer seven to five, and J Q Graves elected health officer seven to five with Phillips and Renaud as other board members. Clerk salary rose to 100 per month after a tied vote decided by Slack. Lawyer Sandel urged delaying attorney decisions until fall and offered to serve pro bono. Major Jones present to celebrate as duties moved to new quarters.
Houston Campbell son of Justice of the Peace J P Campbell of ward nine shot and killed Allie Matthews near the Grayling Lumber Company camp at noon. Matthews attacked Campbell with a knife and Campbell fired a gun in self defense. Deputy Arthur Grant and Corner C P Gray went to the scene by train. Matthews had earlier assaulted the same officer, slashing the throat, and was later arrested. Campbell is under age.
Editors and publishers from across Florida gather for the annual Florida Press Association meeting in Alatka PL. The event runs through tomorrow with talks on cost and advertising. Ross McCormack of Life Oak presides, and T J Appleyard of Tallahassee serves as secretary. Ethel Barrymore plans vaudeville appearances and a new season in December. The New Century Theatre Club in New York offers a 260 prize for a best play due by January 1 next year.
In Baton Rouge on June 19 the Senate defeated the Leon R. Smith anti lobby bill by 35 to 3 and killed the State Fire Rating Board. Senator Mouton argued the board raised insurance rates and served no public good while others labeled it a costly, ineffective agency. The vote ended a push to abolish the board despite opposition from Beale and supporters of the measure.
