A day and night long strike ended with mutineers being sent back to their cells without injuries. Officials reported the unrest began earlier in the day and involved repeated clashes and damage inside the facility.
Warden Lacey Simpson led 300 rioting convicts to surrender after a 21 hour mutiny at the Kansas state prison coal mine. Guards used gas masks and vent fan reversal to drive them back to the surface with no injuries.
Meridian Mississippi June 19 The Ole Miss endurance plane piloted by Al and Fred Key has logged 356 hours in the air at 8 30 am with a target of about 553 hours eight days ahead They report rough air Tuesday but no incidents The duo have burned 3240 gallons of gasoline and 150 gallons of oil and expect weather to favor their flight They hope to break the world record set by the Hunter brothers of Chicago on Thursday June 2 If they continue the flight the Keys expect to surpass the current record and finish soon
Preparations near completion for a three day Monroe event featuring a large Louisiana auto show and merchants trade days. Leading stores participate with unusual bargains while a 100 prize pool is offered to eligible customers during the two trade days. A parade opens the show at 3 30 Saturday with a big band delivering music in the Milner Fuller Motor lot.
Frank Peterman Louisiana relief administrator pressed Washington officials on the works relief program and will tour the state upon returning to locate district centers for relief workers. A blaze on the thirteenth floor of the Maison Blanche department store in New Orleans disrupted downtown activity. Fire officials estimated damage at $165,000 after firefighters battled smoke and flames, with fifteen firemen overcome by smoke.
Washington observers see widening rift as Harry L. Hopkins appoints Harry S. Berry of Tennessee, a former PWA engineer dismissed by Ickes for alleged misinterpretations of PWA plans. Berry previously led Tennessee works progress administration efforts before removal.

In Trenton New Jersey Western Union Telegraph Company faces a 3.6 million dollar suit filed by William F Zwirner of Merchantsville alleging violation of gambling laws by issuing chain telegrams. The complaint states 200 chain telegrams were sent on June 7 and about 200 more daily from June 8 to 15, making the company liable for 2 000 dollars per lottery.
National Guard units moved into Arkansas as flood fears spread. Water streamed through crumbled levees raising alarms across multiple counties as authorities mobilized to monitor and respond to worsening conditions.
The Arkansas river broke through a levee at Ned's Lake near Van Buren flooding 15000 acres of lowlands. In Little Rock two National Guard squads were sent to Pine Bluff to protect levee work as 400 laborers reinforce dikes amid rising tensions.
