A large Viet Cong force ambushed a government convoy 15 miles southwest of Saigon. An American adviser with the unit was captured and a helicopter sent to aid the convoy was shot down. One crewman was killed and the other three seriously wounded.
Ouachita Parish unemployment fell to 3 percent in May 1965 from 4 percent in April, with 1,300 people jobless. Increased construction and retail activity, plus seasonal factors, contributed to the gain, while youths under 22 rose 81.5 percent over May 1964.
