Customs officials detained twelve trunks of gowns and clothing belonging to Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks after their arrival on the Roma. The actress stated low declared values due to Italian supplier prices, with duties assessed at 80 percent of value. Prices will be checked over three days, and the couple remains in New York before heading to Hollywood.
Eva Flowers of Bohemia hotel reported to the police this morning that Willie Durden an insurance salesman who allegedly stole 66 dollars from her money has had the sum returned. She asked that the charges be withdrawn.
City and parish conducted tax delinquency sales at city hall and the courthouse. C. D. Meredith of the sheriff's office oversaw the proceedings. Parish sold 52 parcels with six adjudications. many properties were claimed by mortgage creditors to prevent auction. Sales ran from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Captain George R. White of New York was slightly injured when a wingflapping ornithopter being towed by a car crashed in St. Augustine Florida. A wing strut snapped as the pilot prepared to ascend, causing the machine to somersault and injuring 18 people.
Eldwin McClure of Shreveport defending champion and Fred Lamphred of New Orleans two time winner survive first round at Metairie Country Club in Louisiana state championship. Lamphred defeats Sam Israel 6 and 5 while McClure edges Jesse Rainwater Jr one up. Several New Orleans players win as the event narrows to last eight.
The apparent slaughter of Dan Stella his wife and infant daughter and burning of their home is under a court of inquiry led by Haskell county prosecutor Buben Ballew. Henry McIntosh, former husband of Mrs Stella, was arrested. Post mortem shows both parents killed by a revolver. a kerosene jug was found nearby. Authorities say the couple argued over their 13-year-old son Lee.
A resolution from a St Paul health authorities conference expresses sympathy for Dr Oscar Dowling, Louisiana state health board president, and condemns removal methods. Gov Huey Long had demanded his resignation as a holdover appointee. Dowling disputes grounds for resignation and awaits Governor's reply.
Four year old Johnny Stutts Jr of Fairbanks sustained a severe cut on his foot last night after jumping from a porch and landing on the edge of a hoe. He was taken to St Francis sanitarium for treatment.

SAN BENITO Texas June 16 The first bale claimed from 1928 is challenged as volunteer cotton picked from last year s stubble and not 1928 grown cotton according to officials of the Valley Gin company which ginned the lot.
Rev R A McDonald of Jesus College Spring Hill Mobile visits Monroe to preach at St Matthew's Church and to address Catholic Education at masses at 6:30 8 and 9 30 a m He is described as a capable speaker and large attendance is expected.
A. N. Talley, long time millwright linked to Monroe industries and the Monroe Marble and Granite Works, died recently. Ward and undertaker Hodge aided in transporting his body from Slidell to Monroe, with services set for Mrs Stringer in Clarks and burial at Olla Cemetery. Survived by children A N Talley Jr Joe Talley Mrs Clyde Bradford Mrs C E Stringer Mrs Ir Brooks and others including sons Sam and Dean and a stepdaughter Mrs Houldridge of Fresno. Talley had recently moved to Hody to work at a new paper mill and was a respected Monroe figure.
Newport Arkansas June 16 flood waters of the White River spread fan like over about 40 000 acres of land in Jackson county forcing 800 residents to seek improvised shelter on higher ground. Refugees rushed to escape as Stevens crevasse breached. Relief boats delivered food while more water from the Black River pushed downriver toward Clarendon. Residents planned to return home early next week as the river fell.
