Explorer 49 radio astronomy satellite joins lunar orbit from Cape Kennedy to study deep space low frequency signals. Ground controllers fired a 20 second onboard motor to slow the craft, enabling lunar gravity capture as it orbits about 450 miles up.

The Monroe Little Theatre announced its 1973 74 membership drive with chairmen and policy for the ticket drive. Renewals only at first then open to the public June 31. Box office opens June 21 for Youre A Good Man Charlie Brown. Memberships range from 8 for students to 50 for patrons with two show tickets and extra tickets. Search Started For Two Escapees
Local law enforcement continued the hunt for two men who fled during a work detail. Edward Lee Dade, 26, of Monroe, escaped from West Monroe police while serving time on traffic counts. authorities noted it would have been the last day of his sentence. Jerry Allen Martin, 29, escaped Thursday afternoon from the Ouachita Parish Jail Extension. he is serving a three-year term for felony theft.
