Poison intake leaves inmate in critical condition
Baton Rouge June 15 Still using to tell attending physicians attire of the poison he took after hiring George Kendricks, penitentiary guard foreman, Charles Howell, termed in the Louisiana state entry here, is reported today to be in a critical condition and taking rapidly. Staid treatment hampered by his refusal to name the poison. Howell says he wanted to die and might be cured if he divulges the poison. Physicians say he gave himself a hypodermic injection and the poison may be a mixture from the penitentiary hospital. Howell was sent up for life from New Orleans for murder in 1925.
