Police Jury To Purchase Land For Sewage Ponds

Ouachita Parish police jurors move to buy land for sewage treatment ponds and hold a third bid round for seven acres on Sterlington Road serving as the road department HQ. Sanitation Chair Whetstone estimates pond costs at 1500 to 1800 dollars, passed to five local septic haulers. A 10 acre site east of the Russell Sage Game Area is being bought for 200 dollars per acre. The jury also directs a citizens group to consult on air pollution as odors north of Monroe persist. A church road request in Happy Acres Subdivision is postponed over land-title concerns. Other actions include naming News-Star-World as official journal, a 150 dollar Miss Louisiana Pageant ad, repairs at Cheniere Lake recreation area, bids on mobile radios for the fire department, and beer permits for three residents.
