Engagement announced for Mary Barbara Simmons to St. Jefferson Hood McConnell
Mr and Mrs M L Simmons announce the engagement of daughter Mary Barbara to St Jefferson Hood McConnell. The wedding is set for June 19 at 8 p m at First Presbyterian Church. Mary Barbara is a Qua chita Parish High School and North east Junior College graduate who has worked at Selman Field. Lieutenant McConnell, a Commerce High School and North Georgia Military College graduate, enlisted December 10, 1942, and returned from the European theater after training at Selman Field in 1944. Nearby social notes include Laura Flournoy returning from New York City for a ten day visit, Gene Flournoy pursuing a degree at Louisiana Tech, a tea for Mary Frances Zeigen on June 22, and hospitality happenings at the Handy home. The USO appeals to Monroe residents to provide rooms apartments and houses for military families stationed at Selman Field including married veterans with children.
