East Union Parish Hospital District Formed By Jury
Farmerville actions by the Union Parish Police Jury establish an East Union Hospital District after a public hearing. Initiated by the Farmerville Jaycees and East Union Jaycees, the plan gains support from three Farmerville doctors though one clinic will close. The existing Tri Ward Hospital in Bernice remains unaffected. A bond issue of about 1.5 million dollars may be financed by an ad valorem tax to build the new facility, with date set after the five-member hospital committee reports.

Menefee Boosts Louisiana Oil Allowable Below 8K and 15K Feet
Louisiana will raise oil production allowances starting July 1 for wells bottomed below 8 000 feet and those under 15 000 feet may nearly double output. Conservation Commissioner J M Menefee says the change boosts deeper drilling incentives, state revenue, and industry returns. A legislative directive recently changed the depth brackets for the first time since 1953.
