Canton Ohio June 9 Sejanus A Lengel the deposed police chief is jailed as an indictment accuses him of complicity in the murder of Don R Mellett editor of the Canton Telegraph and News last July Lengel 59 was named by a grand jury that also charged Floyd Streitenberger now serving life for the crime Lengel’s trial is expected July 5 and he would have marked twenty years with the force otherwise
The first non oil cargo ship from Baton Rouge will carry Louisiana asphalt to Rotterdam to be rail-shipped to Germany for road work. The Cranford, a 9600 ton United States Shipping Board vessel, will export 10 000 drums or 2450 tons with 6000 more drums prepared for Hamburg aboard another ship.
BERLIN June 9 Charles A Levine announced he and Clarence D Chamberlin plan a regular trans Atlantic air service with multi motor planes that can carry 2000 pounds. Levine offered 2 million dollars and expected operation within a year. They envision lines from America to Europe and a machine unlike any in Germany.
A midnight blaze in Wilmot Ark last night damaged four brick buildings and contents, with estimated losses totaling 57 000. Fire chiefs Roddy and Dupree led Monroe fire units 59 miles to Wilmot where water from a lake was available if needed.
Congressman Riley J. Wilson says he will not seek the Louisiana governorship. He returns to Monroe from New Orleans after touring from St Louis to the Gulf with flood relief work and vows to focus on relief and a permanent flood control program for future needs. He cites service as ranking member of the flood control committee as his priority and notes broad support from friends and constituents.
New Process Carbon Black Co Inc of Monroe gets a state permit to use natural gas for 90 days at up to 5,000,000 cubic feet per day. The process aims to yield over two pounds of carbon per 1,000 cubic feet. If successful, daily gas use may rise to 15,000,000 cubic feet and the permit could be renewed.
Detectives announced the captured brothers admitted their identity after finger prints matched broadcast descriptions. Held under heavy guard, Ray and his brother face arraignment as federal agents pursue one more sibling, with $20,000 rewards. Hollywood police probe a late night assault on 21 year old actress Doris Dore known as Doris Williams. The attacker carved the letter K on her face arms chest and hands with a razor while she was restrained on a bed. Detectives doubt her account citing no blood on the bed and note blood stains on her lingerie.
Arthur Sapp of Huntington Indiana was elected president of Rotary International with Rufus Chapin of Chicago as treasurer. Directors named include J Knoeppel New York Walter E D Cline Wichita Falls Leonard Skaggs Youngstown Norman Black Fargo and Cornelius Garrison Wilmington with Joe Roger Quebec and Charles E White Belfast also represented.
Baton Rouge June 9 A new Whangdoodle fourth pink sheet in L S U history disappointed buyers expecting a sharper issue. The paper avoids sensational content focusing mainly on a so called student politician and on university conduct drawing little excitement in the city or campus.
Monroe has become the state distribution base for flood relief clothing with the Leonidas Barkdale Faulk post No. 13 American Legion, its auxiliary, and the Red Cross organizing storage and sorting. Donations flow from Legion posts across the country, supporting three storage points and ongoing distribution to sufferers from high waters.
Dr. Rex Matheny of Alexandria is elected president of the Louisiana state board of dental examiners, succeeding Dr. Nolan E. Wilson. Dr. Philip M. Gayle of Monroe is named vice president, and Sidney F. Gauthier of New Orleans becomes secretary, replacing Dr. V. K. Irion who resigned.

King Albert has conferred the Commanders Cross of the Order of the Crown on Harry H. Rogers president of Rotary International. Other distinctions are expected for delegates to the Rotary convention in session here. A Kursaal convention ball last night drew 15 000 attendees.
A truck carrying 400 quarts of nitroglycerin for oil well blasting exploded on a rural highway near Lick Hill, killing driver Frank K. Greer and helper Victor Coxon from Oil City. Twenty injured, including Mrs. Edward Redeig and her daughter Marge, and several others from Lick Hill. Home and nearby houses destroyed. Red Cross and state police responded.
Henry Heinz an Atlanta banker was unanimously elected president of Kiwanis International at the convention closing session. William C Alexander of New York and Fred Page Higgins of Toronto were chosen as vice presidents for 1928. Seattle was selected as the convention city.
The American Chemical Society notes possible arsenic in tobacco based on Dr. Roe E. Remington's Fargo experiments but says it is not justified to claim smoking causes chronic poisoning.
