Associated Press reports orders for 40000 Negro draft registrants to entrain for general military service from June 20 to June 25. Registrants will be drawn from 20 states with Louisiana contributing 5000 men.
Secretary Daniels said no submarine raid or future subs will curb US aid to France. Navy reports no new data on patrol fleet. An American schooner Samuel G Moriel was sunk off New York. 11 crewmen rescued by a Danish steamer. Local Ouachita Parish issued draft quotas for June entrainment to Camp Funston and Camp Pike.
Reports say German submarines raiding the coast Sunday and Monday dropped floating mines in Delaware Bay and near the capes. Ten mines have been found and government mine sweepers search for others.
Navy officials announced that mine sweepers have recovered several German manufactured mines off the Atlantic coast. The mines were believed to have been laid by raiding submarines.
New York officials report that of 218 aboard the steam ship Carolina sunk by a U boat last Sunday, all but 10 have been accounted for. The line owning the vessel announced the tally this morning.
A schooner reaching New York carried Captain Barbou, 156 passengers, and four crew members rescued after the German submarine torpedoed the steamer Carolina. The survivors were picked up off the Jersey coast yesterday afternoon.
Weather forced postponement of ONAT contests at Natatroium last night. Friday features a triple bill with a 1 length pool sprint, an eggs and spoon novelty, and diving events. Each entrant receives a handicap for a fair monthly prize. Mayor Apgar will start the first race, the Liberty Handicap, at eight thirty.
