Final Phase of GOP Race Begins Friday
The final phase of the Republican nomination race begins Friday as Barry Goldwater nears a first ballot victory. Washington state GOP delegates open their convention while two Colorado districts choose delegates, with about 65 more delegates to be selected by Saturday across Washington, Colorado, Alabama and Hawaii. An AP survey shows Goldwater poised for 625 to 650 first ballot votes, just shy of the 655 needed, aided by uncommitted and favorite son blocs in several states.

Democrats To Retain Tenuous Control Of Rules Committee
Washington based report says the House Rules Committee will likely stay under Democratic control in 1965 with two to three new members. Incumbent vacancies include Rep. Carl Elliott of Alabama and possibly Elmer J. Hoffman of Illinois and William H. Avery of Kansas. Potential replacements focus on Claude Pepper or Phil M. Landrum as liberal candidates, with Anderson favored to replace Hoffman.
