Farm Financial Status Better in Deep South
New Orleans June 4 Continued improvement in the financial condition of farmers in Alabama Mississippi and Louisiana was the intention given today by Robert A. Beeland Jr to increased collections on farm loans and a decrease in applications for new loans. The federal land bank collected nearly 25 percent more money on loans through May 23 than for the first five months of last year. Rents on bank owned farms rose 30.81 percent in the same period. Applications for loans have declined since last fall from about 60 daily loans totaling 2 387 200 to eight daily closings by May 29 totaling 404 465. The trend suggests farmers are regaining footing and can meet needs without emergency financing as the refinancing program restores confidence.
