Dr W A Winters his wife Mrs Bird Winters and roomer W H Cooper were re arrested in New Castle Indiana charged with conspiracy to murder Catherine Winters missing since March 20 1913 They allegedly planned to kill and burn the body after disappearance in a 1913 case news report follows.
Nearly 180 of 188 Empress of Ireland victims recovered by the tender Lady Gray were identified in Quebec. Eighteen more were identified at Rimouski. Among the identified are Sir Henry Seton Kerr game hunter Dr E A Barlow leading Canadian geologist and W Leonard Palmer husband of a London newspaper man.
Labor representatives led by Congressman Gorman and Sabath presented the President with a petition of one million names pleading clemency for Thomas M. Ryan and twenty nine co defendants convicted in the dynamite conspiracy.
Sheriff Parker brought Boly and Mack Cleary to Monroe after arrest in St. Joseph Missouri for the murder of Fred Cade on August 2 1918. The men did not resist and admitted the crime saying they justified it. Public gathered but remained orderly.
New Orleans June 1 Judge King dismissed Governor L E Hall libel suit against the New Orleans Daily States over an article about the Tensas land deal finding the piece not libelous. The case valued at one hundred thousand dollars was terminated.
A three day session of the Southern Commercial Secretaries Association will convene in Vicksburg Mississippi starting Thursday June 4. The event will attract a large number of delegates as the organization brings together secretaries from various commercial bodies.
Rimouski June 1 reports Canadian Pacific ships including several tugs and launches were chartered to conduct a methodical search of the St Lawrence for victims of the Empress Ireland disaster.
Dr. J. L. Adams and Dr. J. Q. Graves, longtime colleagues in Monroe, unite their practices effective today after three years of association. Adams, a 1909 Monroe resident, and Graves, who came in 1911, both graduated Tulane in the same class and passed state exams together. They plan a modern office suite above Chase & Collens Co's drug store once the Amman building remodeling is finished.
More than fifty Alexandria Moose visited Monroe as guests of the Monroe lodge. They arrived in special cars over the Tren Mountain line, were greeted by Monroe Moose, and toured the city including a stop at the salt water natatorium. The visitors left content, with plans for a Shreveport visit later this month joining Monroe delegates.
Dr Arthur B Smith, noted physician and son of cultured parents, is to be arraigned for the third time in eighteen months on a murder charge. He stands accused in the death of his first wife Mrs Florence Cavileer Smith who died March 18 1912.
