Mrs. A. D. Bernhardt Hosts Tea for Joy Bernhardt

Mrs. A. D. Bernhardt entertains about 200 guests at a tea in her home honoring Miss Joy Bernhardt, whose marriage to Jewel L. Bates of New Orleans will be celebrated this month. Attendees included Mrs. Philip Bernhardt and Baton Rouge guests. The setting featured pastel gladioli roses and zinnias with a large pink aster central motif.

New Postmaster Named in Dodson Office

Dodson Louisiana July 11 Special Mrs Thera Stovall retired due to ill health after 16 years as postmaster in Dodson. Acting postmaster is Lorene Ferguson a longtime clerk. Albert D Wall a war veteran will fill the vacancy. The Dodson post office serves 525 families.

Monroe Couples Obtain Marriage Licenses

J. W. Caldwell Jr. aged 23 of Monroe and Marjorie Doyle Cody aged 20 of Monroe obtain marriage licenses. Gordon R. Crawford aged 20 of Eros and Betty Jo Costin aged 16 of Eros also obtain licenses. A note on tin can composition states steel content over 98.5 percent with less than 1.5 percent tin coating.

Ouachita Parish High School Summer Term Closes

Welfare office heads change in Concordia and Franklin parishes

Mrs. Augusta Taliaferro, seven years director of Concordia parish welfare, leaves July 15 for Winnsboro to direct Franklin parish welfare. Mrs. Maybel Denham, welfare worker for about ten years, will succeed her and has been supervisor of Concordia parish’s first welfare set up.

Heat Wave Fatal Claims Life of Road Worker in Parish

A 38 year old road construction worker, Dalton Lizas of Shriever Terrebonne parish, collapsed while on the cement highway between Vidalia and Ferriday and died en route to Ferriday Hospital. His body was taken to Shriever for interment.
