Federal court hears bone evidence to confirm if the 19 year old Raymond Jackson, Seminole Freedman, vanished after a 1921 Arkansas train wreck near Blue Mountain. If identified, his parents would claim oil royalties from lands assigned to him.
Little Rock will enter the all American flying derby starting in Detroit and circling the United States with Little Rocket as the local entry. Army flyer Lee Gehrbach has been chosen to pilot the Little Rock team.
Special to The News-Star reports that 11 jurors have been accepted in the Ellis Hayden murder trial in Bastrop district court. A 12th juror was expected to be chosen later, with additional names including W. G. McIntosh D. M. Boone W. L. Lum Charlie Little Tracey Harper Luther Day Carl Stiller M. C. Bulew Wisco Parker Jim Fontenot and Bernard Conger.
Ollis Cooley alias Walter Dokes, serving 20 to 60 year penitentiary sentences, attempted to escape the city jail by cutting a hole in the concrete roof. He worked with a broken flat file about five inches long, tearing away reinforced wires as he labored before morning release.
Fire in Marion Arkansas destroyed four homes and a church building. The blaze started around 2 a.m. and caused destruction to properties linked to prominent local families. Cause remains undetermined. In Memphis Tennessee a garage and auto were burned with two adjacent homes damaged and an estimated loss of about $1,000.
Cardinal Vannutelli, dean of the Sacred College, aged 93, suffered a heart weakness during the night at Vatican City. He received holy communion and extreme unction this morning after reports of uremic poisoning. He was said to have overtaxed himself at the Ascension day ceremonies on May 29.
Washington reports a shift as wage earners and fixed incomes gain from lower prices. Government economists note the home dollar buys more, with May food purchasing power at 31.056 per dollar of July 1929. Food prices eased from April 15 to May 15 across 22 items, seven rose, 13 unchanged.

Memphis ministers plan city wide prayer meetings to seek relief from a heat wave that has gripped the area with temperatures near 92 after a day surpassing a local record. A hot northwest wind worsened conditions, stressing farmers and crops across the region.
Mid-summer heat gripped Kansas and Nebraska with heat prostrations reported across the region. In Nebraska eggs fried on sidewalks as temperatures neared 107 degrees at Ogallala and Nebraska City, with no relief expected.
The area endures an extreme spell with crops withering after a May 18 rain. Yesterday's temperature reached 98.1 degrees, breaking a 59 year old record and marking the hottest July day since 1926. Forecasters predict continued warmth tonight and Wednesday.
Dorothy de Konkoli Thege, 23, of New York, died in a Budapest hospital from suspected poisoning. Police review whether suicide or accident ended her month long marriage to a Hungarian engineer nobleman. She was daughter of Mrs. George Arents Jr. of Rye and New York.

The Louisiana Gas and Fuel Company's Toole number one, in northwest Jackson, today blew in producing an estimated 12,000,000 to 15,009,000 cubic feet of dry natural gas daily. The well has not yet cleaned out completely but shows heavy rock pressure and rising production toward the Jackson field near the 100,000,000 cubic feet mark.
Oklahoma City July 8 Good highways are cited as the main aid to friendship, schools, churches and markets by Charles H. Brough former Arkansas governor at the United States Good Roads association convention. He urged a $25 million federal bridge and culvert program and $50 million for rural post road aid, plus rapid removal of 16,000 grade crossings and uniform markers along federal aid routes.
Bastrop residents L. A. and Mrs. McLemore appeal for aid in finding 13 year old Robert Rhymes McLemore missing since June 29. Police in several towns in Louisiana and Texas, plus radio stations in Monroe and Shreveport, were asked to broadcast information. Bob left Bastrop June 23 for his aunt Mrs. W. Reid’s home.
Judge George K. Favrot followed a state supreme court order to dissolve the injunction blocking a 13 million dollar highway paving fund and required a bond to safeguard New Orleans claim. The Louisiana Highway Commission then deposited a warrant with the court to cover the city’s 246 thousand dollar paving contract dispute on Claiborne avenue.
In New Orleans on July 8, Ben Bill 19 of Metairie Ridge and Dominick J Nathal 14 were seriously injured when their car was struck at a railroad crossing by an outbound Louisiana and Arkansas passenger train. The auto was dragged 100 feet. Bill suffered a spine fracture, a fractured finger and burns. Nathal sustained fractures of the left arm and serious internal injuries.
In Greenwood Mississippi Jackson captured first place in the drum and bugle corps contest at the American Legion convention with Greenville placing second Greenwood third and Gulfport fourth in the standings.
Ex change dispatch reports six killed and 46 injured in rioting at Mansurah amid clash between British forces and followers of Nahas Pasha. Two policemen and two rioters died. fighting rages as Nahas Pasha is seen in the motor car. Mansouran, a Wafd stronghold, becomes center of deadly encounter.
The Captain George, a $20,000 stern wheeler of River & Land Transportation, sank in Red River near Alexandria while maneuvering to let a Mary Lou barge pass. Two crewmen died, one drowned and one crushed. Captain W M Bradford investigates damages. boat fully insured. barge saved.
Late news flashes report Governor C C Young refusing to grant a pardon to Thomas J Mooney who remains in a life sentence for the 1916 Preparedness Day bombing in San Francisco. A separate bulletin notes a moderate quake off Guatemala felt by St Louis observers with timing details recorded yesterday afternoon.
The Agriculture Department estimates July 1 1930 cotton in cultivation at 45,315,000 acres, 97.3 percent of 1929. Texas and Oklahoma lead state declines, North Carolina posts the largest percent drop, while Mississippi and Arkansas edge up 2 percent and Missouri 10 percent.
In Toledo police used tear gas after a two hour siege to capture Louis Weinstein alias Harry Stein, a 42 year old Florida fugitive. Several officers suffered fumes before Weinstein surrendered from a house attic. He was reported to have escaped a prison farm in 1927 and was sentenced for forgery in Tallahassee.
Clarence Weems 21 son of W S Weems of Lufkin Texas drowned while fishing from a boat in a river near Shreveport according to advices from east Texas community.
In Baton Rouge on July 8 the Louisiana Senate rejected a journal correction 16 to 21 to include Peltier Lafourche's notice seeking to move the constitutional convention bill up the calendar. Debate lasted over an hour as supporters argued timing and legality while opponents warned it was the last tactic to speed final passage. Governor Long said a special session might still be needed and indicated the move would be renewed.

In San Jose California an 8 year old boy Joseph Pagliaro was fatally shot by Antonio Colosimo 33 who fired through a wall after being awakened by youths on his cabin roof Colosimo was seized by police and held on murder charges.
