Monroe City Council Votes to Issue 950000 Bonds Soon

Mon roe city commission adopted a resolution authorizing the mayor and treasurer to announce for sixty days the intention to issue city bonds valued at 950000. The remaining bonds from a 1450000 total require an election, with negotiations underway to sell soon, aiming to fund streets and sewers and spur local building activity this year. The plan delays school bond funding until after the legislature meets, delaying an election until after November.

A refined program was presented by thirty six Louisiana Baptist Orphanage pupils at First Baptist Church last night. The chorus displayed fine training while younger children showed expressive elocution. The program included prayers, solos by Elmer Tibbs and Rosa Miller, duets by Audrey Craig and Lelia Worthy, recitations by Jeffie Aaron and Mary Louise Hurst, and multiple choral pieces.
