Allies Unite for New War Against Turks Near Fitzgerald

State militia detachments from Cordele and Macon arrived in Fitzgerald to take charge after an attack on the Atlanta Birmingham and Atlantic train. Captain H D Russell commands. Three companies of Georgia National Guard were ordered to Fitzgerald to restore order as 100 shots were fired at the engine. Engineer W T Reid suffered severe injuries including both legs broken. The unrest followed wage disputes and non-union labor use by the railroad, with fears of martial law pending.

Rail workers to vote on wage cut by September 1

Chicago July 6 sixteen railroad labor organizations including the big four brotherhoods will decide by September 1 through a referendum whether to accept or reject the 12 per cent wage reduction enacted on July 1. General chairmen said full membership must decide by that date, and refused to assume responsibility for the wage cut ordered by the Railroad Labor Board.

Stolen pipe case nets US magnate arrest in Ouachita

Oil operator J. D. O'Brien was arrested in Shreveport on a fugitive warrant from El Dorado Arkansas amid allegations he received stolen oil well casing and piping. Investigators trace pipe movement from Monroe to El Dorado Strong and Union Parish. O'Brien denies charges claiming pipe worth about 2000 dollars, purchased from W. Quimbey in Monroe, was his property and that he did not engage in Arkansas transactions. The case links to a broader Ouachita Parish pipe theft probe and Clarkwell No 1 drilling plans continue.
