Enraged wife shoots slayer of her spouse in Alabama
Anniston Alabama January 25 Mrs Jon Phipps says Burl Austin shot and killed her husband during a quarrel at the Phipps home in the western Taladega County area. Austin was wounded by a shotgun fired by Mrs Phipps as he fled. The slain man died from a severed jugular and five stab wounds. Police guard Mrs Phipps at the hospital where Austin lies recovering. the widow and child survive the deceased.

Fatal cave-in claims second victim in Tennessee town
The Brunswick gravel pit collapse that killed laborer James Rodgers claimed a second life when Rev W A Haste died at Baptist Hospital in Memphis from internal injuries. Haste, 65, was principal of Gates High School for seven years and pastor of Gates and Brunswick Baptist churches.
