Tuscaloosa, Jan 7. Mystery deepens over branding of two University of Alabama students as college investigators fail to identify or locate the injured men. Physicians refuse to release names and the student body remains uninformed. Each man was branded with a hot instrument on the hip and suffered painful wounds.

Oil and gas rights on the 910 acre Hatcher farm in Ouachita parish have been leased by Mrs. Florence G Hatcher and C P Hatcher to carbon and gasoline manufacturers. Henry G Evans of Montgomery Alabama and Lynn Horner trustee of Clarksburg West Virginia organized a company with large capital stock to take over the contract and build a carbon and gasoline manufacturing plant on the Little Rock and Monroe railway. Transfer of rights is for 15000 capital stock in the new firm.
Ouachita parish authorities appeal for help in finding John F. Powell a Monroe area carpenter who vanished from Texas connections. Sheriff Arthur Grant received a letter from Miss Jewell Powell Abilene Texas asking steps be taken and his daughter requests information. Powell is described as six feet tall light hair blue eyes slightly crippled in left arm and a former Texas arrival.
Washington January 7 Prohibition Commissioner Kraemer declared the United States will never be literally dry but prohibition is here to stay. He said sentiment nationwide grows stronger for prohibition and practical measures will come after the current generation fades, as sons and daughters of today grow up without a taste for liquor.
England Ark Jan 7 seven persons burned to death and two probably fatally burned when a fire destroyed the Royal hotel and cafe. The blaze cut through the second floor as guests fled by ropes fashioned from bed clothes.
