Escapee Special Forces Officer Evades Capture Nine Days
Maj. James N. Rowe, 30, of McAllen Texas, held in Vietnam for five years, escaped during a B52 bombing strike Dec 22 and evaded the pursuing guards for nine days before being rescued by U S helicopters near the U Minh forest. He grabbed a guard’s AK47 seized his radio and fled, later signaling for pickup as U S helicopters closed in on the forest fringe.
