In Brooklyn a widowed WPA carpenter weighs risky amputation for his eight year old daughter Dorothy whose leg cancer spreads slowly. Doctors quote a one in twenty chance of survival if the leg is amputated, while the girl smiles under a Christmas tree as siblings and family cope with hope and hardship.
Frank E. Gannett of Rochester told the Niagara Falls chapter of the National Committee to Uphold Constitutional Government that the national debt endangers constitutional government. He warned annual carrying charges total about 1 billion dollars and urged corrections within the constitutional system instead of accept defeat to dictatorship.
State Policeman Kenneth Marlin halted a drunken motorist and ordered him to park. He received an emergency order to go to Muncie and left with instructions to wait. Marlin returned hours later to find the motorist sober and still there.
Mooney expects a pardon from Governor Olson in Sacramento after appearing for clemency. He vows to devote life to freeing Warren Billings, jailed for the 1916 Preparedness Day bombing in San Francisco that killed 10 and wounded 40. She married in May 1929 and says he deserted her on May 20 1936. No alimony was sought. Her age is listed as 38. In Hollywood a newborn daughter of Mrs. Charles J. Corret died soon after birth.
Philadelphia coroner’s physician testifies at the murder trial of former Deputy Warden Frank A. Craven about the deadly heat in the Klondike punishment cells. He describes conditions as blazingly hot and notes a convict named Frank Comodeca died after confinement. Other officials face charges in separate trials.
