Santa visits and Christmas cheer accompany reports from Sherrouse and St Matthew’s Girl Scout Troops 54 16 12 1 26 and 29. Brownies made sequin earrings hair clasps and handkerchiefs while Troop 29 sang carols at a home and donated toys. Patsy Davis was invested as a Tenderfoot. Dr. Walter C. Richardson of Louisiana State University received the Herbert B. Adams Prize of the American Historical Association for Tudor Chamber Administration 1485 1547. Published by LSU Press, the work was the unanimous top choice among 24 entries at the association dinner.

In Dubach the 1954 Christmas lighting contest sponsored by the Lions club named Mrs Pat Modisette home first place. Ruston Matches Federal Civil Defense Funds for Equipment
Ruston to receive about 248 dollars in federal Civil Defense funds to match the city's appropriation for communications equipment. The approval came from the FCDA regional office in Denton, Texas and was reported to the Louisiana Civil Defense office. Funds are part of a 1955 program available on a first come basis for warning systems and emergency equipment. In the previous year, 47 cities and parishes shared the majority of 189000 dollars in matching funds for Civil Defense gear.
