Twelve inmates seized a cell block but were forced to surrender after guards, city police and firemen exploited a spoon fashioned key and surrounded the area with machine guns and walls on high alert. Joseph Burns, jailed for a 1925 Culver bank robbery, led the plan.

Monroe is reporting tax collections for the city near 150 000 dollars for the current date up about 40 000 from the same date last year. The victims were robbed of their car. Lyman Constant 35, recently released from a Norman state hospital, was detained in Enid for questioning.
Mayor Arnold Bernstein announced W. I. Neel, city engineer, will serve as temporary city building inspector to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Richard Cassidy. Bernstein pledged strict compliance with building ordinances and that inspections will be careful with permit applications required before new structures begin.
Police linked the fatal shooting of William Bailey, 38, to liquor hijacking violence in New Orleans. Bailey named Silvestro Carollo, 33, as one of four men in a killer car, aiding detectives in identifying a suspect after Bailey died of 14 shotgun wounds near Governor Nicholas street.
