In Taylor Texas a widow Mrs Fritz Heise 61 killed her two sons Fritz 26 and Rudolph 23 with poison on Christmas day then drank a fatal potion. A third son Adolph Heise discovered the scene. She left a note saying she was tired of life and prepared bouquets for their graves before dying.
L. E. Thomas, Shreveport past grand master of the Grand Lodge of Louisiana, will keynote Monroe Masons at the Masonic Temple for St. John Day. The event includes a banquet and the installation of officers for Western Star Lodge No. 24 and Graham Spurghnor Lodge No. 38 F and A M.
London December 27 Prince George youngest son of King George and Queen Mary was thrown from his horse while hunting with the Belvoir hounds. He suffered a severe shoulder bruise but was not detained after examination at Melton War Memorial hospital.
Four men held up the Olney Bank branch in Philadelphia shortly after opening, escaping with an estimated sum over $20,000. The robbery occurred about ten minutes after the bank opened as four employees including a woman and three or four customers were inside.

Patrolman Joseph Cronin who was off duty and intoxicated was jailed after a shooting at a Negro wake on Religious Street. George Simmons, 46, brother of the deceased, was struck and wounded in the stomach and side as panicked mourners fled the house. Simmons hospitalized and not expected to recover.
Miss Alice Lee Grosjean secretary of State was severely injured in one of her arms. Mrs. E A Conway and her son Eugene Conway Jr escaped injury as Gov Huey P Long's automobile wrecked near Alexandria on the way to Baton Rouge. The car ran off a bridge embankment and was abandoned. The travelers reached the capital hours later.
Income tax blanks for 1930 will be received by January 2 and taxpayers with high incomes may begin filing returns then. Deputy internal revenue collector R C Griffin said the final day is March 15 with office hours extended to midnight at the Monroe post office building third floor. The tax rules revert to 1928 rates and procedures.
A four weeks old baby, Jonald Decquet, was smothered to death while sleeping between his parents in New Orleans last night. The father Dagoduc Decquet reported the incident to police today.

R C Butler a 36 year old pharmacist from Round Pond Arkansas killed himself in Shreveport by shooting himself near the heart late yesterday. He was identified by authorities and died at the scene. No motive is disclosed.
Paris dispatch reports Marshal Joseph Joffre, famed World War I commander, in grave condition after an arterial surgery eight days earlier. His right foot was amputated due to gangrene. Five doctors are at his bedside at Saint Jean de Dieu hospital as monks provide nursing.
Richard Cassidy, longtime Monroe building inspector and prominent regional contractor, died after a six month illness at his home 916 St. John Street. Funeral services set for Sunday at First Methodist Church with Rev. W. W. Drake officiating. interment in Riverview Burial Park under Masonic auspices. Cassidy had been active in Monroe industrial and municipal affairs since 1904 after arriving from Crockett Texas.
Lord Melchett former Sir Alfred Mond a premier British industrial financier died in London after weeks of phlebitis and relapse. As head of the largest chemical firm in the British empire he was a political and Jewish national home advocate with a notable English public life.
Elizabeth Johnson Jr of Port Arthur was found shot in a car in front of the First Methodist Church South. A 22 calibre rifle was sawed to pistol size and fired the fatal shot according to Justice T A Butler. Police question John Williams, 18, University of Texas student and son of Rev S W Williams of Austin.
Customs agents aided by prohibition officers seized liquor valued at $10000 in a residence at 1434 Kerlerec Street New Orleans yesterday as part of a prohibition drive. Authorities reported the operation targeted illicit alcohol storage and distribution in the area.

In New Orleans on December 21, Hamilton Kennedy a 19 year old from Covington died at Charity hospital from knife wounds suffered after a bottle was thrown through his car window on the Bogalusa highway near Pearl River in St. Tammany parish. Fred Crawford 22 and Claude Bennett 21 were arrested as intoxication was noted and charges expected. Kennedy stopped his car to ask who threw the bottle when Crawford allegedly admitted I did in a scuffle that followed.
The nation’s railroads prepare a rate war against buses and airplanes after losing substantial passenger traffic. The St Louis-San Francisco cut fares to two cents a mile, with Western carriers to follow. Officials say the move aims to recapture riders, not a true war, as rail revenue passenger miles drop from 47 billion in 1920 to about 27 billion this year and passenger numbers fall from 1.235 billion to 780 million.
