Yeggs broke into the O. B. Register store at 800 Cypress Street West Monroe last night taking merchandise worth about 100 dollars. It is the third burglary in recent months with a prior November 25 safe smash yielding about 186 dollars. no safe attempt was made last night. Sheriff Milton Coverdale and local officials investigate.
In Brussels on December 28 nearly 7,000 acres and five villages near Termonde were under water as floods driven by a gale and high tide swept inland. Authorities warned that greater destruction than four weeks ago could occur, with ongoing suffering and extensive damage already reported.

In Shreveport Louisiana on December 28 relatives of Mason T. Carter learned that his three first cousins Robert Eugene and John Gerde were killed in a grade crossing auto accident near New Orleans on Christmas Day. Carter's funeral time was moved up so his brothers Dr. M. W. Carter and L. F. E. Carter and his nephew Norwood Carter could travel to New Orleans for the cousins' funeral.
Mary Jennings Mayo age 39 of Shreveport died when a Packard roadster ran off a curve west of Ravville called Death Curve. Dr D R McIntyre and his wife, also of Shreveport, were injured but not seriously. McIntyre is Mayo’s brother. The group was en route to Delhi to visit L M McIntyre.
In Gastonia North Carolina a farmer J W Vanderburg his wife and three children were slain and burned in their home near Dallas five miles from town. A 17 year old son is held in Gayon county jail suspected of starting the fire to conceal the crime. The sheriff said the son was angered after midnight and the bodies were brought to Gastonia for an inquest.
Superintendent H D Apgar announced a new traffic light will be installed soon at the Grammont and Jackson intersection. The area has seen several collisions and both streets are heavy traffic routes with Grammont now a right of way east of the junction. The new system with signals right of way streets and safety platforms is operating smoothly and praised by the department.
More than a hundred young News-Star carriers gathered at Hotel Virginia for a holiday banquet. They marched to the hotel lobby and stairs at 7 25 PM for a festive meal of turkey and dressing ice cream and salad, hosted by News-Star Publishing Company.

Insurgent leader Maximilie ano Vageras, captured yesterday, was executed today by a firing squad after a secret court martial at the San Lazaro Marksmanship School. He faced charges of depredations and two attempted captures of U.S. Ambassador Dwight W. Morrow. A background reward of 5100 pesos had been offered.
