In a Birmingham hospital, a high school teacher who attempted suicide after an incident in New Orleans says he wanted to die. Police report indicate the man leapt from a hotel window in New Orleans before his rescue and subsequent medical care.
James Rt. Orr a 30 year old Birmingham high school teacher jumped from an upper floor of the Roosevelt hotel in New Orleans and was taken to a hospital barely alive. He used the assumed name C N Smith of St Louis and said I wanted to die. He listed 1515 South Street Birmingham as his address.
Two downtown churches were entered last night, yielding a total of 13.50. The First Methodist office on Wood Street lost 3.50. the First Baptist office opposite City Hall saw 10 taken from Rev. L. T. Hastings and Rev. C. B. Hall desks during break in. Police suspect a single intruder or team.
George Wood a Chicago salesman endured a rope gag and handkerchief in an assault that ended when Wood freed himself. He overpowered the robber after the bandit returned and snipped Wood’s suspenders, sending the thief fleeing.

Marion Lee 12 son of Joe Lee Seton Claiborne parish died when the automobile he was driving overturned near the family home on Christmas day. A negro youth in the car was injured but not seriously.
Dee Gaddy 76, widow of James Heard Gaddy and mother of Mrs. Theodore Gilbo, died at her son Ira Gaddy’s home in Wiggins. Funeral set for Purvis Baptist church yard Friday afternoon. Survived by sons Dr. S. J. Gaddy and Houston Gaddy and daughters Mrs. Julia Fenworth Mrs. Ines Calhoun and others. governor’s office to close tomorrow.
