A U S Navy P2V Neptune patrol plane with between nine and eleven crew crashed in the North Atlantic near Argentia Newfoundland during fleet exercises. Searchers found an empty liferaft and lifejacket 67 miles south of Argentia as planes ships and a cutter converged on the scene. Names of the crew were being withheld pending next of kin notifications. Weather was reported good. The aircraft was based at Brunswick Maine but stationed at Argentia for the mission.
