Monroe Shippers Seek Reduced Railroad Rates in IC C Hearing

Shippers from Monroe and other cities plan to plead before the Interstate Commerce Commission in Washington on January 9 to argue for reduced railroad rates on various commodities. The Southwestern Industrial Traffic League led by Monroe president H. J. Fernandez will press their case with the league’s commerce attorney from Houston, Texas. The first hearing December 14 focused on railroad rate experts who argued against reductions. January will hear the shippers’ side proposing a return to pre August rate levels.

Monroe urged to replace Ouachita river traffic bridge

Blodgett Construction of Shreveport urges Monroe mayor to replace the Ouachita river bridge due to heavy traffic and advanced rust. The 20 year old structure cost 110000 and would require about 500000 or more for a new concrete piers and steel spans with concrete and asphalt floor. Officials say public should be informed as replacement is necessary for growth of Monroe and West Monroe rail extension.

Pipeline survey pushed from Monroe gas field to Alexandria

Engineers and surveyors backed by Southern Carbon Co. undertake a large survey south of Monroe toward Alexandria to lay a gas pipeline. The preliminary route runs near Swartz Ouachita parish with a line expected to be fixed within forty or forty five days.

Loot Identified After West Monroe Theft Arrests

The West Monroe theft case ends with Elmer Parker and Augie Parrish, aged about 22 and 15, arrested on Winnsboro Road. Sheriff Grant says staff items from West Side were found, plus four bicycles from Monroe public school entertainment. Individuals identified shirts, bed linens, napkins, a tarp, and a pig tied to the case. The youths pleaded guilty but deny knowledge of the thefts.
