Donor appeal urges timely requests for aid as Goodfellows seeks funds to meet a $20,000 goal. Jackie Neal notes a record number of applications and receipts total $7824.76 to date, with donations directed to Monroe, Louisiana via News-Star-World.
A long list of donors contributes to a memorial fund totaling 7824.76 dollars. Names include Malone Hyde Inc and North Monroe Lakeshore Lions Club among many individuals and couples giving in memory or in honor during the holiday season.
South Central Bell Louisiana chief sought an emergency 75 million dollar consumer rate increase to take effect in January. He said the move offsets higher service costs while the Public Service Commission weighs a 105 million dollar overall request filed last April 12.
Lambert of Gonzales, chair of the commission, criticizes tactics behind a $105 million rate hike request. He says the legislature has forced hearings after utilities faced seven other requests and court disputes over prior filings. Bailey warns earnings will fall below six percent in 1978 without rate relief. The court had already limited a prior telephone rate case by denying rehearing of PSC denial.

Officials say the inquiry stems from a Monroe News-Star report claiming the hospital owed former patients or insurers $462,442.30, and Blue Cross would deduct any Medicare overpayments from amounts owed to the hospital.
