New Orleans police report former New York bookie king Harry Gross and his brother Jack will fight extradition to New York on swindling and parole violation charges. Both men held on 50 000 bail after arrest in a fashionable apartment. Harry, 39, is charged with swindling Celia Cooperman, 35, during mortgage arrangements for a future home. Jack, 29, is a parole violator previously jailed on bookmaking-related lies about Harry.

A fast spreading eight room wooden house in Hopkinton burned early today killing four from the Morrison family. George Morrison 48 Mary Morrison 48 son Peter 8 and mother Florence Morrison about 70 perished inside as neighbors tried to rescue them but were repelled by the flames.

Eleven Men Rescued After Vessel Sinks Off Florida
Eleven mariners from the 104 foot motor vessel Monster were rescued after it sank in a storm 75 miles northeast of Miami. Coast Guard aircraft and a tanker plucked Captain William C. Alvers and ten others from lifeboats after about two hours of rough seas and waves. The Monster, owned by Thompson Construction Co. of St. Petersburg, sank three miles west of Great Isaac Light in the Bahamas following an SOS. All hands were saved two hours and 35 minutes after the alert. the rescue occurred around 7 p.m.

Sixteen Nations Admitted To United Nations End Long Freeze

Partly Crippled Mississippian Is Injured Here
John L. Figures a 37 year old destitute Mississippian sustained minor injuries to his good leg when his car rolled over it near North Third street and Louisville. He was pushed and then dragged under the vehicle as he tried to push the car. Figures was taken to St Francis Hospital by a funeral home ambulance and released at noon. His wife and four children aged eight to two years remained in the car at the intersection seeking money and gasoline for the journey.

Four youths die in Durant house fire
In Durant Oklahoma four youths died when a three room house burned after a wood stove fire. The victims were Leon 19 Bobby 14 Jay 7 and Hilton Berry 18 a family friend. Their mother Pat Womack 38 was critically burned and treated at a local hospital. Linda Jean 10 slept elsewhere at the time.

Nasser threats two front attack if Israel strikes

Monroe firefighters reported five structures damaged in fires across Wednesday and Thursday. The worst blaze struck 603 North 19th Street around 1 26 p m Wednesday at a shotgun shack used for hay storage, damaged by fireworks from local youths. Two small shacks at 3000 Louisville burned from a trash fire later Wednesday, and a Richwood road home owned by Ritter Sellars suffered minor damage from a faulty flue early Thursday. The Clifford Strauss residence at 1401 North Third also burned Thursday afternoon due to a cleaning fluid ignite.

Red Cross Head In Alexandria Dies Of Wreck Injuries
Janet Brown 32 executive secretary of here Red Cross died from auto crash injuries. State troopers said her car failed to curve on a highway west of Pineville and overturned when she was thrown free. She had served three years with the Red Cross here. Funeral services were held here and burial planned in Oklahoma City. Survivors include her parents Mr and Mrs Harold Brown of Fort Worth Texas.
