Several Given Prison Terms For Burglaries In Louisiana
Three Negro youths who pleaded guilty to burglarizing the B A Gentry Grocery on Texas avenue were sentenced to the Louisiana state penitentiary Tuesday by Judge David I Garrett Sr in fourth district court. Maynard Williams 25 and Bennie Miller 24 received six years each not to run concurrently with probation. Bennie Whitfield 18 got five years. Calvin Barrington 29 pled guilty to burglarizing the 7 and 11 Grocery at 1501 Cypress street West Monroe and was sentenced to six years. Arlie Young Jr 26 from Matewan WV and Evelyn Arlene Slocum from Towners NY pled guilty to burglarizing two residents in Ward 7.

Fire destroys Epps area home. no insurance found
Fire today leveled the six room wood frame home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gowan three miles north of Epps. The couple were at work while their children were cared for by a sitter. a faulty wiring cause is suspected. The TV set survived.
