Balloting for Ouachita parish junior college began at 7 am with polls closing at 5 pm. Weather kept many taxpayers away as 1 pm reports showed an extremely light vote, with Ward 3 Precinct 1 recording six ballots and 165 qualified voters. Continued on page six.
The News Star will broadcast today’s junior college election results between 7 and 9 pm. Parish polling boxes are asked to telephone returns to the office of the parish superintendent and election commissioners at the number 966.
The Twin Cities charity collection appeals for holiday help as Christmas joy depends on contributions to the Good Fellows Fund of 1928. The appeal urges readers to send donations to The News Star office on North Second Street, noting a small but growing balance and gratitude for past support.
Dr Harrison Jordan of Rayville introduces a concurrent resolution in the Louisiana house to back landowners in the Boeuf and Tensas basins against the Jadwin floodway plan. He argues for a controlled spillway to limit damage, opposing Jadwin's proposed floodway.
In Buenos Aires a plot to bomb Herbert Hoover's special train was thwarted with two arrests. Police secured grenades bombs dynamite and firearms in a house on Estomba street and found a detailed railway map. A youth named Alejandro Romano and a chauffeur Jaime Castro were taken into custody as investigations continued.
Seven or eight robbers attacked a First National bank payroll wagon in Yonkers, wounding guard Adolph Kauster and escaping with about 100000 dollars. The armored car carried payroll from the post office to the bank for Alexander Smith and Sons Carpet Co. Police and state authorities pursue the robbers.
Yesterday's test results in the Morehouse gas fields add two new producers. Ethridge No. 1 by Stovall Drilling Co. in section 22,204 east produced 11,320,000 cubic feet daily at 2,157 feet with rock pressure 775 pounds. The other well exceeded 45 million cubic feet per day.
A sixteen year old Ernest Whitehurst wounded nine policemen including Deputy Commissioner Mul len during a five hour standoff in Gotham. Surrounding officers fired from multiple positions before the youth was killed. three sisters and two brothers hid in the home throughout.
London December 12 King George underwent puncture surgery to remove purulent fluid around the base of his right lung. The slight morning improvement continued and further drainage was anticipated. The Ouachita police jury approved re enacted parish license rules tightening rules on country dances hats and carnivals outside city limits. A $1900 carnival license outside parish limits aims to prohibit such events. Monroe and West Monroe already ban these attractions within their borders.
In Shreveport Louisiana Dr W V Fife and Drs C T Hanning and P R Jones were found guilty in district court of practicing medicine without a license They posted 500 bonds and await sentence Friday Attorneys said they will seek appeals The case involved chiropractors claiming to be clinical operators and a separate defendant Dr J R Fife failed to appear and had his bond forfeited
In Baton Rouge, the Louisiana legislature approved the four cent gasoline tax and related highway measures with little opposition. It also passed a two thirds vote to raise supreme court justices’ salaries from 8,000 to 10,000 and circuit judges’ pay from 6,000 to 8,000. The senate adjourned until tomorrow after a busy day of votes.
Washington December 12 Roy O West secretary of the interior sat silently as two year old testimony was read to senators weighing his cabinet confirmation. The reading disclosed investments in Samuel Insull utility interests and a 1926 solicitation of a $10000 contribution for local campaign uses. West and his family had invested and consulted Insull.

A fire at the Boyle Hotel in Houston killed three people including J. J. Lindley of Houston who suffocated in his room. L. Dougan and an elderly cripple were found in the ruins as flames were controlled. About twenty guests escaped after a Mexican boy alerted the manager. Property damage estimated at 25000 dollars.
In Great Falls Montana Deputy Sheriff Herbert Locke was shot dead by Robert Combs who had threatened his estranged wife and then shot himself. The shooting happened at a downtown filling station as Combs fired through a closet door where Peter Bross had sheltered, narrowly escaping injury.
A. L. Stancil chief deputy sheriff of Union parish died of apoplexy after arresting a bandit suspect in a Linville shack near Marion. Sheriff Murphy, present, collapsed later from grief and illness. The arrested man tied to raids at Junction City Arkansas and other local robberies. Leonard Campbell 22 and Nelson Wall 29 were later jailed in the drive.
